The eyes of the world are on Padua and its socially committed congress centre

Wednesday, October 15 2014

At the next International Congress and Convention Association congress, this giant of world conferences, with 1004 members in 91 countries, all eyes will be on Padua.

At the international meeting which is taking place in Turkey in Antalya from the 1st to the 5th of November this year, Centro Congressi Padua will be taking part not only as a conference participant but also as speaker at the “Innovative Approaches to Corporate Social Responsibility in Business Meetings” session.

And there is nothing routine about this involvement if we remember that the association has 30 Italian members of whom only 10 are congress centres and only two of these are in the North East.

But what was the logic behind the organisers decision to put the Padua congress centre in the limelight to the extent of putting it forward to the 800-1000 congress participants attending from all over the world (practically the world congress summit)? For its community work dimension.

This is perhaps one of our least well known activities. Centro Congressi Padova is, in fact, part of the Officina Giotto network which has been taking work to the Padua Due Palazzi prison since 1991 involving hundreds of prisoners. Thus our congress centre too uses products encouraging the reintegration into society and the labour market of disadvantaged individuals such as the disabled and those in prison in its services and product chain.

Pasticceria Giotto del Carcere di Padova (www.idolcidigiotto.it), for example, is very well known for its absolutely top quality products on permanent show at the congress centre and offered on a daily basis in our banqueting service.
Those booking the congress centre's top quality services thus benefit from a second advantage: support for a social inclusion initiative which is of great importance for the individuals involved and highly beneficial for the community as a whole.

This is the activity which we will be presenting in Antalya, an activity which has taken on an international dimension not only for the 200 Pasticceria Giotto retail outlets all over the world but also for its knock on effect in other continents such as Brazil (news in italian) and Chicago (news in italian) in the United States.

We'll see the results when we come back from Antalya!
